BIRDING & WILDLIFE VIEWING

Current wildlife viewing is excellent with herds of deer, flocks of wild turkeys and numerous song birds coming to our feeders on a daily basis. Bald eagles are being seen regularly at Patoka Lake and cross our farm often. Northern harriers are abundant on the prairie now.

  • Birds and other wildlife abound on the private 120-acre tract surrounding Blue Prairie Bed and Breakfast, which is specially managed for enhanced wildlife habitat. Enjoy birding and wildlife viewing from your own private patio or on the hiking trails throughout the property.

  • We are directly in the migration path of the Sand Hill Crane. Sightings in the hundreds are frequent during October, November and December, and again during the northern migration during February and March.

  • Nearby Patoka Lake is home to nesting bald eagles, and they sponsor an Eagle Watch program in mid-January. Call for information.

  • The Patoka Lake Visitor Center has guided nature walks.

  • Binoculars and bird identification guide available.
